Child Safety Seats

Did you know it’s estimated that 4 out of 5 car seats are installed incorrectly? It is the law to have your child in a child safety seat until the age of four. In addition, a child who is BOTH under age 8 and shorter than 4’9 must be fastened in a child safety booster seat that meets federal safety standards. We recommend keeping a child in a booster seat based on their height rather than their age.

A booster seat raises the child’s seated height which allows the belt system to comfortably and safely rest across their body. A properly installed car seat or restraint is your child’s best defense against being seriously hurt in a crash or sudden stop.

Child Safety Seat / Car Seat Inspections are conducted at the Fridley Police Department on an appointment only basis and are free for Fridley residents. To schedule an appointment, please email

In addition, the Anoka County SAFE Kids Coalition offers FREE car seat inspections at monthly clinics (10 per year) throughout Anoka County. Clinics are also by appointment only.
